Dedications

The time of the year when we celebrate the birth of Mother Mary. September 8th is commemorated in celebrating her birthday. Though her exact date of birth is unknown. Mary was a 1st century Galilean Jewish woman of Nazareth, the wife of Joseph and, according to the gospels, the virgin mother of Jesus. 

Many of our earlier ancestors never knew of their date of birth, but what we know of Mother Mary is thanks to her birth, that we had the birth of Jesus. So she was born destined with a purpose. A purpose to bring the son of God into earth. In Bombay her birthday was celebrated with great religious fervor and festivity at the Mount Mary's Church in Bandra. The celebrations that followed for a week popularly known as Bandra fair.

Past two years the religious celebrations and the festivity was banned due to the horrific pandemic that has hit humanity. Something similar at the time of the birth of Christ, where King Herod ordered the killing of all infants. As he had heard from the Magi of the birth of a King. An event known as the Massacre of the Innocents.

Today COVID is killing innocent humans. To make it worse humans are killing each other in acts of war, murder and crime. So at the time of the birth of Christ, if Mother Mary could be a source of hope and security for the son of God, she will continue to be for all humanity.

The question is are we ready to accept her hope and security and not something we had regaled to a religious commemoration and festivity. Nature is telling us that this is not what she wants. She wants us to be like Jesus. Where Jesus the son of God had no choice at the wedding feast of Canna, but listen to his Mama as an obedient child, which was the first miracle of Jesus, turning water into wine, and HE ultimately ended commemorating wine as a symbol of his blood he shed on the cross

Mama Mary is not expecting our blood in sacrifice, but hoping that we don't spill blood of humanity through Biological war, conventional war, crimes, murders and killing. Not that many of us indulge in any of these inhuman activities. What is worse is our silence and blindness to what is happening around us.

Our Mother will be like how she was for her son at the Cross, and as the Beatles song goes "When I find myrself in times of trouble, Mother Mary come to me speaking words of wisdom, LET IT BE”. Today she wants YOU TO BE THE REASON FOR HOPE. Hope for a broken world.

So on her this birthday commemoration let's wish our Mama, Happy Birthday and promise her that we will be like her son Jesus to bring peace, so on her son's birthday we will literally mean when we sing, “Joy to the World”
