Happy Teachers Day
Who are we fooling by wishing Happy Teachers Day? Especially in today's world and time, where wishes are are more hollow, shallow and empty with the virtual greetings. Moreover it is free and even free of movement of our physical bodies, besides our thumbs.
The class of the of the students who may have graduated from high school till late 80's, maybe the only group that may have experienced Teachers with class. Class where the profession was with nobility and not just profitability. Class where it was love and genuine concern for the students. These teachers did not need a label of being teachers in an International school. Today schools in cities are upgrading to International curriculum. In the process human values are getting down graded. It is tbe rich who can afford this level of education.
How many of the ISRO scientists graduated from International schools? Still they landed a space craft on the moon. Today education can cost a trip to the moon literally if you calculate the total amount of fees spent by the elite and rich in these International schools. This in turn is churning children with a capitalist or materialist mind set. So to with the mindset (and no heart) teaching faculty and with the mushrooming coaching classes for students.
Being from the class of the 80's I still ensure my respects to few teachers who I could reconnect with. These teachers joy can be felt when they are called on their birthday or any special occasion. Was so happy and felt blessed visiting a teacher in hospital before she could die Many teachers till the late 80's who depended on their teaching profession as income are in dire striats today. Those who are comfortable could be because of a working spouse or children doing well and taking care of them financially.
So this teachers day if you are a student of the late 80's from high school, thank your teachers for the happiness you are blessed in your life. To the teachers of today, I can only wish them wisdom to understand the nobility of their profession. Remember you are not only educating or teaching students. You are creating world's future. The state at which the world is today, wondering how many teachers would be happy in future? Wondering how many in the world are happy?
The teachers of the yesteryears don't want greetings wishing them Happy Teachers Day. They would prefer seeing their students making the world a happier place.
(Photo in this blog is a very old picture of teachers in Don Bosco High School Matunga. A school I take pride to be a part off)

The point about creating the future is very pertinent. Most people believe it to be just an expression whereas it is really the teachers who can make a big difféence.
Good blog as usual Sunny. Yes, our teachers of the 50's n 60's are no more. Those of the 70's may still be there. But they were a class in themselves. What dedication, what sincerity and pride they took in their profession. The discipline n knowledge they imparted to us, has made us what we are today and we are ever grateful.
Sunny that's an awesome writeup.
Today some of us are recognised and appreciated from the skills we possess, the command over which we flaunt, the craft on which we pride and the professions as we make our living with, is the product which was once nurtured, disciplined, cultured and rooted so profoundly to its recognisable is only becuase of you teachers.
“Happy Teachers’ Day to the mentors who shaped our future.” 🙏

Perfectly said. What Knowledge they parted to us in those days were tremendous. It was a real joy to attend their class. They even feed you their tiffin if you were hungry. They were a CLASS APART. God Bless them all wherever they are in this World or in the Above World.
Wow.. this is a superb article...so well written . We had teachers who were dedicated.... and besides imparting knowledge taught us to respect one another
Hey Sunny, you nailed it yet again ! I am in the same 1980's boat as you, and very proud and thankful to the Don Bosco legacy. Hats of to your Tribute to the "Teachers", our true nation builder's. God be with them !!
Well written Sunny.
What’s so special about late 80s except that the writer finished his school in the 80s?
The same probably could be claimed by the 50s, 60s & 70s kids too.
Have seen this type of glorifying of their own years in whattsapp forwards.
The 80s kids are the teachers of the current generation. So why are they not imparting the same glorious values they had imbibed to the new generation?
I think the kids are enjoying their style of education and teachers. Who are we to decide what is good and bad.
That said, Happy teachers day. May God bless all the teachers .
